The Internet is a huge source of information and sometimes a cause of confusion. My 30-something friend Eunice and I decided to introduce her mom to the wonderful world of the
World Wide Web. Our first move was to give her a book called Internet for Dummies by John Levine and company. I think the book is quintessentially the must-have for new computer users who want to know anything and everything about the web. I've read the book myself actually, and I find the book very friendly and informative.
After giving her the book, we proceeded to our next step. We showed her the popular "Google" website, and we told her that it can answer any questions she had. Eunice's mother was very skeptical and jaded at first, until I said, "It's true, Mrs. Coltrane. Think of anything you want to ask, anything."
I sat in front of the computer with fingers positioned on the
wireless keyboard, ready to strike. The witty lady thought for a minute, then she asked the simplest question and at the same time the most confusing I've ever heard, "How Is my husband doing?" Eunice and I looked at each other giggling -- her dad is in Japan for three years now.
